The Cameroon Mountains represent the only montane habitat in West-Central Africa. Due to this isolation, the Cameroon Mountains host specific plant and bird communities with a high proportion of endemic species. The area is recognized as a hotspot of endemism of regional and global importance. The study site is situated in the Mendongbuo area. It is located in the Bamenda-Banso Highlands above Big Babanki village (Cameroon, N 6º 5´,E 10º 18´, 2200 m a.s.l.). The main problem of the area is deforestation, montane forest remnants occur by streams only. The most of highlands cover extensive pastures and Pteridium aquilinum community alternating with stream mantel vegetation, plantations and Lasiosiphon glaucum woodlands. Mean temperature reaches 14.5-17.0 ºC and mean annual precipitation varies from 1780 to 2290 mm (March – November).
