SATEC (Sustainable Agricultural Technicians) NGOBig Babanki, NW Province, CameroonWhen the Tubah people realized that their watershed was very important, 4 fons came together and decided to protect it. Bearing this in mind, 6 youths were identified from each community and soliciting assistance from a Swiss association of international corporation (HELVETAS). They were trained in watershed management. After the trainings, four different organizations were formed in each of the community. In 2001, this gave rise to SATEC. Responsible person in SATEC is Vunan Ernest Amohlon, who is trained in beefarming, agroforestry practices, gardening, tree nursery establishment and forest monitoring. Kedjom-Keku community (Big Babanki village)Big Babanki inhabit approximately 20 000 people with mean economic activity in farming (maize, cassava, huckleberry beans, potatoes etc). The women are the brain behind these activities. The community originated from a race called the Tikari from North Cameroon. First historical record of the village is known from the year 1425, the recent chief Benjamin Vutsiboung is 19th Fon in order. |
